Jason Andrew Smith, Director of Bands
Jason A. Smith serves as the Director of Bands at Spring High School. In addition to conducting the Wind Ensemble, he co-conducts the Symphonic Band, and Concert Band. He is also the lead woodwind instructor and and is in charge of the chamber music program. He is in his fifteenth year of teaching, having previously worked in the Clear Creek ISD. Mr. Smith’s ensembles have been recognized for outstanding musicianship and received the coveted UIL Sweepstakes award, as well as superior ratings at numerous festivals. The Zorion Clarinet Quartet, the Veritas Saxophone Quartet, and the Tuba / Euphonium ensemble were all featured at the 2016 Music For All National Concert Festival in Indianapolis. Spring HS Chamber Ensembles have been featured in demonstration clinics at The Midwest Clinic, TMEA, and at the Texas Bandmasters Association convention. Under his direction, the Enigma Saxophone Quartet has won the Houston Underground Saxophone Quartet Competition and performed at The Midwest Clinic in 2013. In 2014 they were semi-finalists at the prestigious Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition where they won the Outstanding Junior Wind Prize. Mr. Smith has been an invited clinician at the annual conference of the Texas Bandmasters Association in San Antonio, Texas.
Jason, a Spring alumnus, received his Bachelor of Music Education from the University of Houston’s Moores School Music. While at the University of Houston, he was a student of Dr. Karen Wylie, Tom Bennett, David Bertman, Eddie Green, John Benzer, and Noe Marmolojo. His professional affiliations include the Texas Bandmasters Association, Texas Association of Jazz Educators, North American Saxophone Alliance, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.
